Objectives
Upon completion of this CME activity, participants should be able to:
Obtain an appropriate sexual history to assess risk for STIs and communicate this in a sensitive and non-judgmental manner
Recognize and describe the common presenting symptoms in females of chlamydia, gonorrhea, non-genital herpes, genital warts, syphilis and HIV
Describe appropriate methods used in the diagnosis of STIs
Perform female genital examination

Introduction
With so many topics to cover in a brief clinic visit, it is easy to overlook what can be a sensitive topic – a patient’s sexual health. This module provides guidance on how to take a female sexual history – what questions to ask and how to conduct the conversation. It also describes the techniques for correctly performing an exam on female patients then reviews common abnormalities that may be discovered during the exam.

Complete the post-test (2-5 content-related questions). This is an AMA requirement for all enduring materials beginning July 1, 2011.
